The word 'attack' does not make me happy. If this going to be about getting revenge on ByoLogyc through violence, I'm not sure I want any part of this. Violence won't stop the pandemic - the SCD tried that already.

But if this is about stopping ByoLogyc and holding them accountable, I'm in.

I suspect ByoLogyc may bring the violence via the SCD. they are literally fighting for survival even though the odds are clearly stacked against them at this point in time.

so us only using enough force as needed for self-defense would seem the wisest course. "stop" and "hold accountable" are goals we should all be able to endorse.

I'm going to start by making this clear; I am immensely relieved that Paul is ok. I'm not sure what he went through, he isn't talking about that very much, and what little he does say doesn't make much sense. But regardless that he now has his freedom again is nothing but a good thing.

On that note, I think his experience has left him a little more unhinged, moreso than he had been before.

I agree that we need to infiltrate the Retreats. I've been trying quietly transporting things to the staging area that Louis mentioned. If he did nothing else he did pick a good location. To have the biggest impact on BL we need to strike when they are at their most observable; this weekend when hundreds of people will descend on the Brickworks.

However, I do agree with the OP and backpane; "Attack" implies too much direct violence. The SCD will be everywhere; the less we engage them the better. If we are seen as being the instigators we lose all legitimacy.

hopefully Paul's captors didn't medicate/brainwash him. is there any possibility they "programed" him to deceive us into trusting him? a horrible thought, but with all that's gone down, I find it hard to believe anything is what it appears to be. then again, "personality disorder" is one of the many possible BRX symptoms...

URGENT UPDATE TO BRX PROGNOSIS

In my last report, I identified the cities threatened by the BRX outbreak as Toronto and the major cities in the US and Canada, due to the regular air traffic out of Toronto Pearson. Thanks to a recent discovery on the interaction between BRX and the almond flavoured ByoBreath, that prognosis must be immediately modified to encompass all of Canada and the US, as well as potentially any major city in the rest of the world.

At the Public Health and Community Wellness Clinic we examined some subjects from Kitchener who appear to have contracted BRX without any contact with anyone already infected. An investigation into this turned up an important and horrifying relationship between BRX and the almond flavoured ByoBreath. As ByoBreath creates a synthetic cell layer within the lungs, it
appears that redundant code within the almond flavoured ByoBreath cells causes it to express CD16, a membrane protein normally used to detect antibodies in the immune system. As malicious BRX antibodies target CD16, the BRX virus in some patients has relocated to the lungs, where the readily-infected ByoBreath cells line the pleural cavity and have access to the host’s airway. As BRX is capable of surviving in air, it has
become an airborne contagion.

On June 26, internal computer systems were severely compromised, introducing a deleterious malware onto every laboratory computer and shutting down power to the incubators in the sample room. Fortunately, backup generators were in place to prevent the loss of any living samples. However, due to the loss of server data, any hard drive restoration using backups would have to be done with the physical hard drives we keep updated every week. When those backups were plugged into the lab computers, the malware infected the external hard drives and wiped those as well.
We have experienced a total loss of digital research
data. Using what was written in notebooks and what could be
gleamed from memory, I worked with Drs Quinn and McKenzie to reconstruct the genome of the most successful BRV trial, which was slated to go into production for the then-upcoming ByoRenew VIP prerelease. Because we established a digital labeling
system in May 2011, none of the colonies made since then were available to us. i don't necessarily believe it's Chet, but here's the argument FOR chet that i would buy:

the man is up for some global cleansing. he sees humanity as having become vile and in the way of progress and caught up in disgusting little trivialities. maybe honey-boo-boo child was the last straw. so he's wiping out the planet. he cooks up a fake anarchist movement to shoulder the blame for BRX so that Byologyc doesn't get shut down by health or legal organizations. with Byologyc still operating, he can continue his plan of mass-destruction with a second release of the virus (BR2). and maybe Project Cradle/Byobaby was focused on creating a new race of superhumans that a) can withstand the virus, and b) repopulate the earth.

I think it's time to take action. Proper action. Paul and Louis are full and well absent, so we need to take the initiative in our own hands.

I mentioned it elsewhere, but I will restate what I think about the creation of BRX; we were not directly responsible, but our hack may have had a hand in the problem. Part of the blame lies with ByoLogyc, either in in weak system architecture, or an intentional malicious plan to make the production facilitiy and BR product code accessible. At this time we don't know. But the damage is done, the original vector has mutated on it's own, a process over which we had no control. We did not create BRX, it created itself.

The time for blaming is done. It's time to get answers and make those who knew about these problems accountable. This was the original mandate of the core EXE and ByoLeaks, and somehow we got away from that.

My proposition; we all have connections with those on the inside, in one way or another. We need to press them for answers, if they have them or if they have to find them out. We can't be too forceful or their inherent nature will make them dismiss us. Nor can we be violent or threatening; we've seen what happened to those that have been.

I didn't know if I would ever be back here, or online, or anything, after this afternoon.

If you aren't aware, I almost got brought in today, and subsequently taken out. I was careless with my last doctors visit (whole lot of good that did me). Turns out the SCD were there waiting for me, Oleg and his croonies. At the door, around the building, even somehow had a GPS tracker on me. I don't know how...

I got away. I ran. Thank god for adrenaline; I swear it affects me more now. I managed to slip down into the subway, killing the GPS signal, and managed to lose their tails. Somehow, someone was around to help me, physically cutting the security feed and cutting off SCDs eyes down there.

Paul, where the hell are you? You take time out of your days to talk to Olive, Felicity, and request a meeting with me, but I never hear back from you? I know it sure as hell wasn't you down there today. You're too scared. I can't afford to be anymore.

I'm with a friend I can trust, and I'm safe. They can't get me here. But we all need to have a talk.

Why are you so sure that it wasn't Paul and/or Louis helping you by cutting the security feed? If they are that good, they would conceal their identity for obvious reasons.

The person who cut the feed has been in contact, and it wasn't Paul. Louis only seems to surface around BL events.

We need the person who changed the BRX code to come forward. No judgment - I just don't want anyone else to suffer. If I knew what got changed maybe we could work backwards to fix it.

Here's what I think happened with the EXE hack and BRX, and I’m going to be honest; I don’t know. At the time the hack happened I was on the sidelines with most of the other VIPs, so I had no hand in the creation of the worm that was responsible, and the only involvement I had was the uploading, along the same lines of the VIPs that uploaded the .exe file to the Decomposition Task. We all know how quiet Louis has been about the whole thing since it happened.

However, this is what I think happened; the whole thing was just an unfortunate accident. Let me explain: Our hack was directed at the ByoLogyc head office servers to take down their site, phones, and gain access to internal email to potentially get more material to leak. What strikes me as strange is why the production facility’s command controls, which are in a completely different city, are routed through Toronto head office. Even though Dahlia answered the other day that they are on a separate system, they still connect, why weren't there failsafes to sever that connection once the server got attacked?. Even more suspect, why were the product codes and chemical make-up instructions on there as well, or at the very least not under heavy encryption? Being as it’s the company’s livelihood, wouldn’t those be under the strictest lockdown? These things should never have even come in contact with our worm.

ByoLogyc doesn’t want to be shown in public as being incompetent so they took the convenient way out by blaming the whole problem on us rather than take responsibility for poor system structure. And who’s going to believe a bunch of hackers that we didn’t have malicious intentions. Sad thing is, we don’t know what really happened, so there’s nothing we can do to fix it now. Unless we’re just the scapegoat for someone else’s tampering…

From what I know, a first batch from ByoRenew had been made prior to the hack and there may still be a limited amount of that sample left. The coding was at the factory for that purpose, but it must have gotten changed both at headquarters and at the factory after the hack.

Ann is right, sadly. We don't know by whose hand the change was made. So, how do we fix it?

After a few conversations with some concerned individuals over the last few days, an interesting proposition has been brought forward: If I am infected with BRX (which I am, I am sure now), why don't we take this opportunity to try and have it medically examined?

To be honest the thought had never occurred to me before. But seeing as how of the two we know who are infected, myself and Adrian, we only have access to me. Any others who might have brought themselves forward to BL are no longer in a position to help us...

So I've started going to see doctors, starting with my own. I don't know why I even bothered; he just said it was a stomach flu, and the blood was just from a irritated throat cause by acid reflux. He said the same thing when my gallbladder backed up and exploded a few years back...

Today saw me as an emergency room visit. Thankfully the place was almost empty, limiting the number of people I could possibly infect, if BRX is transmittable... Diagnosis: Pneumonia. Handful of antibiotics, lots of fluids, and "deep breathing exercises". I kid you not. It was everything I could do to not break into tears as they sent me on my way.

We need to know more about this virus. The BL lab sure won't release it's research. Here's hoping I can get someone to take me seriously.

Since the basic premise of ByoRenew is that of a 'cocktail' of immunities from multiple viruses conferred by 'dead' or weakened versions of themselves, it is reasonable to assume that one of those actual diseases (influenza or hantavirus, as examples) could be contracted if the formula is defective (i.e. a not-so-dead strain).

What is not so clear:

• What if any curative qualities have been added to the inoculation aspect?
• How contagious is a victim who took BR and thereby contracted BRX?
• How susceptible is a person to BRX who hasn't taken ByoRenew?

That is the idea behind BR2.0, not the original. The original pill was a "primer" pill that BL was going to use to tailor your "Immunization Subscription" to your particular physiology. Those have never made it out of the lab, as the primer component was the one that mutated.

Also, administering dead strains of a virus is how vaccinations work. Most, if not all, of us have had childhood vaccinations and flu shots. They always carry a small risk. What concerns my about BR2.0 is the "extra" things they have added in there. Not enough can even be know about the BRX virus to have already created a vaccine against it, yet they claim to have anyways.

The last two questions are ones that BL has avoided answering entirely. Either they don't know, or they don't want the public to know.

The key is the vector I think. What virus is ByoRenew based off of? That might tell us more about BRX. . .

Since BR2.0 is designed around boosting immunization, as Ann said, it could just be a cocktail of various weakened forms of different viruses all in one. Which would explain Ann's different diagnoses with the flu and such.

Our bodies naturally build up immunities to disease if we are exposed enough to them (for examples, the common cold). But what happens if we get hit with the cold, flu, pneumonia, etc. all at once? The body gets overwhelmed and systematically shuts down.

I agree with stone, if we could figure out what viruses BR2.0 was created with, if anything it's a start to treating BRX, or at least slowly elevating symptoms.

Her own work kept her unchallenged – comfortable but unchallenged – and the only change to that would be a true connection with Chet. She knew what he wanted and how he operated, probably better than he did himself, but she would never offer herself to him.

She would not be the next Olive Swift or Capricia, or any of the ones to come before. She was not weak-willed, she was not a toy to be bargained or played with. But when her blonde plaything straddled her late in the night she squinted her eyes and imagined a different reality.

She adjusted her labcoat absentmindedly. Tonight would be the night she would seduce Davian Baxter. It was just a matter of how she would lure him from the lab for a reasonable amount of time; how to get his over-sized brain to shut off for a few minutes to enjoy some baser pleasures.

ByoMate was an obvious helper. She'd slipped some into his coffee earlier – three times the normal dose, in fact – but there had been a complete absence of him humping inanimate objects or any of the other telltale signs that he was high and therefore could be more easily manipulated. But it was worth a try anyway she figured.

So at 6:30 pm when he had finally pulled away from extracting DNA from a dead bird she was ready. She waited for him to wash his hands then came up behind him at the lab sink, embracing him from behind. “Davian, I want you to take me here and now. There's no use denying this spark between us.” She was ready to give him her all even if it meant giving her life in the process.

Given how fast the BRX was advancing through her bloodstream she knew that any moment could be her last. Davian sighed but leaned in to conquer her mouth with his own.

He sat in Chet's chair late at night breathing in his scent. For too long now he had been at the man's beck and call, servicing his every need. Almost his every need. All but the carnal desires he knew that he could fulfil for Chet better than any woman could if only he would ever ask it of him. Those extra glasses of champagne that went un-commented on. Those late-night meetings. Each time he had been certain and each time Chet had let him down.

Chet's confidence, Chet's power, Chet's physique – all of these set him apart and made his presence almost intolerable especially when they were alone together. He must have known that leaning in that extra inch with the rich musky scent of his cologne made him impossible to resist.
But there was only so long that love could exist before it turned to bitterness and he knew what he must do next.

I can confirm the authenticity of this memo. When I dropped in on the staff gathering at Insomnia on Friday night I overheard Bernice telling the rest of them about this specific message. It explains the reactions they had to Olive the next night at the clinic.

It's a legitimate email that got sent to all staff. Chet is... unsettled to say the least.

I don't particularity care for your methods. Your "peaceful protests" turn into hacking of private company property and whatnot. Maybe ByoLogyc was well intentioned at the start, and you've gone and thrown a monkey wrench into the whole process. but that was then and this is now.

It sounds like they are dealing with a very diverse dataset and attempting to create a standardized workflow based on a lot of conflicting inputs. Creating order out of chaos, if you will.
